Is it still safe to eat?
It compares the day you stored or opened it with the duration in the guide. The large figure there is the shorter published end. A sour smell, a slimy surface, or mould finishes it even inside the window.
This is a window, not a guarantee. A sour smell, a slimy surface, or mould means it is finished, even on day one. It is not medical advice. The app does not decide whether the food is still safe either. Disclaimer
- Pick the food.
- Fridge, freezer, or pantry.
- Raw, unopened, opened, or cooked. If several rows match, pick which one.
- Enter the date stored or opened. The tool adds the guide’s window on the calendar. This is not a guarantee.
Questions people ask
Is this a guarantee?
No. It compares the day you stored it with the window in the guide. Smell, slime, or mould can finish it sooner. It is not medical advice.
Which number does it use?
The same cell as the guide. The shorter end and the longer end are the ones printed there. It does not invent a third duration. Months are added on the calendar, not turned into 30 days.
What about the freezer?
Freezer months are about quality. The tool calls that a quality window. The guide does not give a safety expiry to food held continuously at −18°C.
What if the cell has no duration?
You see the sentence from the guide, for example do not freeze in the shell. The tool does not turn that sentence into a day.
